Bedford Modern School Announces Appointment of new Head
Bedford Modern School is delighted to announce that Mr Michael Hall has been appointed to succeed Mr Stephen Smith as Head of BMS from January 2010. Stephen Smith will be retiring at Christmas 2009 following 13 years’ distinguished service.
Stephen Smith was appointed Headmaster in 1996, a year which saw the opening of the Robert Luff Centre by Robert Luff, CBE (OBM) and Lenny Henry. BMS moved to becoming co-educational in September 2003, a process which was successfully completed by being fully co-educational in September 2007.
“It has been a great privilege to serve as Head of Bedford Modern School since 1996 and I take every confidence in knowing that the School has an extremely exciting future ahead” said Stephen Smith, BMS Headmaster.
Mr Hall has been the Principal Deputy Head of the fully co-educational and independent Kingston Grammar School since 2004. Prior to that appointment he was at Arnold School, also co-educational and independent, for almost eleven years, including periods as a Boarding Master, Head of Department, Head of Faculty, Head of V1th Form and member of the senior management team. He is a teacher of Economics and a keen sportsman (with a particular passion for rugby). He is married to Emily, a professional singer, and they have two small children.
“I would like to thank Stephen Smith for the support he has given to the whole process. I know that he and the School’s Leadership Team are looking forward to working with Mr Hall. Everyone is very excited about the future of Bedford Modern” said Ian McEwen, Chair of School Committee.
